The Legendary '59 'Burst ...The Hammer of the Gods
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of their iconic 1959 Sunburst Les Paul Standard, Gibson has revamped many features of the '59 Reissue to be even closer to the original masterpieces. They carefully scanned several original '59s using the latest technology and made over 25 changes to get closer to pure visual and tonal nirvana. From the voluptuous top carve to the comfortable "less shoulders" neck profile, Gibson went all out in '09 to celebrate this very special anniversary.
Originally introduced in 1952, the Les Paul model was Gibson's first 'Spanish Style' solid body electric guitar. Not a company to rest on their laurels, Gibson steadily improved the Les Paul over the next few years culminating in the Sunburst finished models of the '58-'60. Many enthusiasts' feel 1959 was the pinnacle of perfection for the Les Paul. Everything including the PAF Humbucking Pickups, the intonatable ABR-1 Bridge, superbly comfortable neck profile, and glorious sunburst finish came together that year to create a true 'holy grail'.
Golden Cherry Burst
A celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul would be incomplete without a Bigsby-equipped example. The Bigsby unit is the classic tremolo associated with Gibson guitars and has been long-favored by a wide variety of luminaries including Keith Richards, Neil Young, Chet Atkins, and Lonnie Mack. From the gentle shimmer of a ninth chord to the distorted dissonance of a Neil Young solo the Bigsby adds a unique color to your sonic palate. A cherryburst with a particularly warm orange center, The 50th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul in Golden Cherry Burst is a spot-on color representation of page 38 of the quintessential burst-lovers bible; Yasuhiko Iwandade's "The Beauty of The Burst."
